LOLITA TIMELINE
Quotes from Lolita that prove it’s NOT a love story.
- “How sweet it was to bring that coffee to her, and then deny it until she had done her morning duty.”
- “She said she loathed me. She made monstrous faces at me, inflating her cheeks and producing a diabolical plopping sound.”
- “She had entered my world, umber and black Humberland, with rash curiosity; she surveyed it with a shrug of amused distaste; and it seemed to me now that she was ready to turn away from it with something akin to plain repulsion.”
- “and it would take me hours of blandishes, threats and promises to make her lend me for a few seconds her brown limbs in the seclusion of the five-dollar room before undertaking anything she might prefer to my poor joy,”
- “She said I had attempted to violate her several times when I was her mothers’ roomer.”
- “Lo looked up with a semi-smile of surprise and without a word I delivered a tremendous backhand cut that caught her smack on her hot hard little cheek bone.”
- “Something within her been broken by me,”
- “He broke my heart, you merely broke my life,”
- “And I sat beside Dolly just behind that neck and that hair, and unbuttoned my overcoat and for sixty-five cents plus the permission to participate in the school play, had Dolly put her inky, chalky, red knuckled hand under the desk.”
- “Had I come before myself, I would have given Humbert at least thirty-five years
for rape, and dismissed the rest of the charges.”
-
“Alas, I was unable to transcend the simple human fact that whatever spiritual solace I might find, whatever lithophanic eternities might be provided for me, nothing could make my Lolita forget the foul lust I had inflicted upon her. “
- “And her sobs in the night — every night, every night,”
- “How long did I think we were going to live in stuffy cabins, doing filthy things together and never behaving like ordinary people?“
- “This was an orphan. This was a lone child, an absolute waif, with whom a heavy-limbed, foul-smelling adult had had strenuous intercourse three times that very morning.”
- “If we two are found out, you will be analyzed and institutionalized. You will dwell, my Lolita will dwell, with thirty-nine other dopes in a dirty dormitory under the supervision of hideous matrons.”
- “When, during our longer stops, I would relax after a particularly violent morning in bed, and out of the goodness of my lulled heart allow her- indulgent Hum!- to visit the rose garden or children’s library across the street.”
- “Pulease, leave me alone, will you,” you would say. “For Christ’s sake, leave me alone,”
- “I had just retracted some silly promise she had forced me to make in a moment of blind impatient passion, and there she was sprawling and sobbing, and pinching my caressing hand, and I was laughing happily.”
- “I would satisfy myself that the damned staff had at last finished cleaning up our cottage; whereupon, flashing a smile to the sky, dark-hair page girl of my princess and thrusting my fatherly fingers deep into Lo’s hair from behind, and then gently but firmly clasping them around the nape of her neck, I would lead my reluctant pet to our small home for a quick connection before dinner.”
-
“And there were times that I knew how you felt, and it was hell to know it.”
- “Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the majority of sex offenders that hanker for some throbbing, sweet-moaning, physical but not necessarily coital, relation with a girl-child, are innocuous, inadequate, passive, timid strangers who merely ask the community to allow them to pursue their practically harmless, so-called aberrant behavior, their little hot wet private acts of sexual deviation without the police and society cracking down upon them.”
These are just a few of many quotes that I feel people need to remember before classing Lolita as a “love story” or speaking about “wanting their own Humbert”.
If your excuse for Humbert raping Dolores is that she was “teasing” him, you are a fucking victim-blaming piece of shit. You shouldn’t even be reading a novel like Lolita because you seem to have a poor understanding on what the fucking book is about to begin with.

The sexualization of little Asian girls, especially Japanese, Korean, and Thai, is honestly so revolting. These girls can’t even wear their school uniform without being turned into some Western dude’s Lolita fetish. And you know what, “fanservice” anime where the girls are tiny and innocent but still highly sexualized doesn’t help the problem. It’s not “just a cartoon” because media doesn’t exist in a bubble. It contributes to the harm of real little girls because Western men go overseas to rape young girls who are being trafficked precisely because of the prevalence of this fetish through media. Stop the sexualization of innocence, school, and youth and let these girls have a childhood without gross adult men getting off to them.
